I experienced my first Bikram class when I was visiting my older sister in Chicago, this past September. She had been practicing for about a month and it was something I had always wanted to try, so she insisted we went. A week after we returned home from Chicago, I came to Bikram Yoga Williamsville and tried the introductory special. I immediately fell in love with Bikram Yoga.
I have experienced a number of both physical and emotional benefits from practicing. When I began practicing I was running a significant amount of miles and it was starting to take a toll on my hips, knees and feet. I noticed how much better I was feeling and how my injuries were decreasing as I started to practice more consistently. I remember running until my knee blew out and was in so much pain I couldn’t even walk, that was until I came to Yoga. As soon as the class started I immediately found relief in my knee and when the class was finished I walked out with absolutely no pain. I was also having some health issues which caused me to have many procedures and tests, with doctors finding no answers. Again, as my practice became more consistent I was able to see many of these issues disappear; I was amazed that it was Bikram Yoga that was helping my symptoms rather than the number of doctors and specialist I had been seeing. I am now a true believer in the many benefits that Bikram Yoga entails.
I don’t have a favorite posture but enjoy the standing series and the challenge that each posture brings.
I am motivated to keep coming back, even after a hard class, because I know the endless benefits it brings me and the way I feel after each class…not to mention the motivating instructors and people you meet!
Bikram Yoga has changed my life by allowing me to focus my mind and relax, something I didn’t know how to do. With being more mindful of all the activities in my life I have become more energetic and sincerely happy. The physical benefits I have acquired from practice have been remarkable but the emotional and sense of peace I have within has been the most rewarding.
