I started practicing Bikram after my brother’s girlfriend Kristen mentioned what a good work out it was. She lives in NYC and suggested I Google Bikram Yoga in Western New York. I began experiencing knee problems from running and playing field hockey so I was desperate to find another means to exercise and feel good! Needless to say…Bikram Yoga of Williamsville was a PERFECT fit for me!
Physically, I have lost weight, I do not have any more knee problems and I truly feel my ‘hunch’ back (kaiphosis) is slowly improving each and every time I practice Bikram Yoga. Emotionally, I am MUCH happier, I have so much more energy which allows me to be a better mom and wife. My children and husband mean everything to me and they deserve the best. Everyone knows that “Mommy loves Yoga!” And I love how Yoga makes me feel about myself!
My favorite posture is standing separate leg head to knee because it is the posture Jim Kallet picked me to correct at his posture clinic. It is the posture I struggle with the most but love to get a simple compliment from one of my teachers when I am attempting the correct form in this posture.
From playing high school sports and college field hockey at Michigan State, I crave competition and I still get that fulfilled with Bikram Yoga. Pushing yourself past places (and postures) you have never been before keeps me coming back for more Bikram Yoga. Also, that accomplished feeling after finishing that last breathing exercise makes me feel good each and every time; even if I fell out of every balancing posture that day.
Currently, my husband and I are building a house in Akron. We sold our home in May 2010 and have been staying with my parents and my in-laws with our 3 small children. Bikram Yoga has been such a stable stress relief for me so I can be the strong mom and wife I need to be during this transition time until our house is finished in May 2011. I can promise that Bikram Yoga will continue to be a stable part of my life long after we are living in our new home! I can focus on myself for 90 minutes each day and get a good workout at the same time! Bikram Yoga proved to me that this is the perfect mix of exercise. What other form of exercise can you improve cardiovascular endurance, lose weight, feel relaxed, push yourself beyond your current limits, gain flexibility, improve posture, be happier, gain muscular endurance and become more energized and focused? I owe more than words could ever express to Bikram Yoga of Williamsville and the wonderful teachers I have! Thank you for being such an important and special part of my life!
